Telehealth

The Telehealth therapy office allows Dr. Gerber to continue to offer ongoing comprehensive, compassionate, evidence-based mental health treatments to her patients regardless of where they are located geographically.

Telehealth has many benefits especially during a Pandemic, including allowing all participants to continue therapy even with stay at home orders in place. Another benefit is it allows individuals to communicate with their doctor without facial coverings.

One of Dr. Gerber’s specialty areas is Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Many patients, who are touched by autism, have unique challenges wearing face masks due to the symptoms of his or her diagnosis. An individual may have sensitivities to material touching their skin or face, or have fears associated with textures and other sensory inputs.

In addition, individuals with ASD can result in perceptual challenges, such as difficulties picking up on social cues which may be negatively impacted by masks which interfere with the visual cues of seeing one’s face and their facial expressions.

Therefore, Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) may benefit from therapy utilizing technology such as the Telehealth platform. Telehealth, (virtual therapy) offers a safe and confidential space utilizing technology (cell phone, tablet, or computer) for therapy. For many individuals, regardless of what brings them to therapy, Telehealth has many benefits. Telehealth eliminates the fear of exposure to Covid-19 associated with interacting with others in person. Telehealth allows a patient to seek help safely and seamlessly within the comfort of an individual’s home and/or work environment.
