Autism and You
Author: Dr. Lauren Gerber

As a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, who has many families in her private practice, I am frequently asked by parents and grandparents to offer support to their children and grandchildren who have been diagnosed with a myriad of health and mental health diagnoses.
Given the high prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorder (CDC’s statistics approximately 1 in 68 children, 4:1 prevalence, boys:girls), I chose to write Autism and You in the Dr. Lauren Library to reach out beyond my practice to this growing population in need of information.
Autism and You, which was selected as a Moonbeam Award winner, is the story of a young boy with Autism Spectrum Disorder who in telling his own personal story helps the reader understand how it is to live with ASD.
The second half of Autism and You includes a resource guide written for parents and professionals which includes the DSM 5 diagnosis of ASD quoted in its entirety, as well as an additional list of informative and research-based websites.
Kitchen Table Therapy
Author: Dr. Lauren Gerber
Illustrator: Norm Bendell
As a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, I have had the honor of working with many families over the years. Parents have often asked me, “How can we best lay a solid foundation for our children?” My response is, “Let mealtime be parenting time. Let your kitchen be the heart of your home where learning and bonding occur daily.”
In a digital age where computers, game systems, and smartphones are taking society by storm, Kitchen Table Therapy helps families refocus and get back to the basics. Fun-filled activities that require only simple ingredients; a family, a kitchen table, and your time, are the “meat and potatoes” of this heart-warming, engaging family book.
Does God Have An Email Address?
Authors: Dr. Lauren Gerber & Jake Bennett Gerber
Illustrator: Norm Bendell
After losing his pet, Comet, my son Jake sought to deal with his personal grief.
As a family, we were also grieving. As may be true with many families, our Labradors were integral to our family.
Whether it is the loss of a pet, a grandparent, or any close family member and/or friend; Does God Have An Email Address? is a wonderful book, co-authored by a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and her son; designed as a family exercise to help process loss utilizing a non-sectarian sense of spirituality.
The ideas shared in this story were helpful to Jake when he was looking for answers and seeking comfort. Important to note, this book transcends the concept of a pet’s death; and can apply to any loss that a child or adolescent experiences and wants to work through with the support of his\her parent or guardian. I share this special tribute to Comet from our family to yours.
